The Beauty and the Abyss
At the 2024 San Remo Festival of Italian Song, ‘Geolier’, the pseudonym of Emanuele Palumbo,
a young musician from Scampia, an area near Naples known for social decay, climbed the podium, finishing second. He grew up in Milan in the Gescal district. The Neapolitan rapper has stirred much controversy, including accusations of racism, in public opinion. In a chaotic world of growing poverty and decay, there is still hope to bring value and be an inspiration to others.
The faces, expressions, and gestures of the characters, the skyscrapers, and that bit of greenery,
I have connected them in a vortex with a central figure: a muse. I painted three large-format oil and acrylic canvases. Great people have achieved great tangible
goals, despite unfavorable conditions and numerous failures accumulated along their journey.
Some are expelled from schools and academies
(Albert Einstein and many others).
La Bellezza e l’Abisso
Al Festival di San Remo della Canzone italiana 2024 è salito sul podio classificandosi secondo ‘Geolier’, pseudonimo di Emanuele Palumbo, un giovane musicista di Scampia, una zona vicino Napoli, nota per il degrado sociale. Cresce a Milano nel rione Gescal. Il rapper napoletano ha suscitato molte polemiche, anche di razzismo, nell’opinione pubblica. In un mondo caotico, di povertà crescente e di degrado, c’è ancora speranza per regalare valore ed essere d’ispirazione per il prossimo.
I volti, le mimiche e i gesti dei personaggi, i grattacieli e quel po’ di verde li ho connessi in un vortice con una figura centrale: una musa ispiratrice. Ho dipinto tre quadri a olio e acrilico su tela in formato grande. Grandissime persone hanno raggiunto grandissimi obbiettivi tangibili, nonostante le condizioni sfavorevoli e i moltissimi fallimenti collezionati sul loro cammino. Alcuni vengono espulsi dalle scuole e dalle accademie

L’immigrazione di massa dai paesi economicamente deboli,
i rifugiati fuggiti dalle guerre, persecuzioni e cambiamenti climatici,
la pandemia, il Lockdown, la crescente povertà, la disoccupazione
ha creato negli ultimi tempi molti disordini sociali, razzismo e
guerre tra i poveri. L’ispirazione l’ho avuta vivendo a Londra
osservando, esplorando e facendo delle ricerche in strada e nei
musei. Collaboro e lavoro con dei giornalisti, scrittori e editori di
riviste rinomate (Naked Punch Magazine).
Su questa tematica ho creato delle opere in prevalenza ad olio e
acrilico su tela, cartone e su carta, delle stampe e disegni con
inchiostro su carta. I formati si aggirano attorno ai 40 x 50 cm
fino a 110 x 180 cm.
Gili eventi tragici che accadono negli ultimi anni nelle grandi città
industrializzate del Nord, ossia le ipocrisie, l’emarginazione, la
disinformazione e la solitudine che si sono sviluppate tramite questi
avvenimenti, ‘Vita nelle grandi città’ mostra allo spettatore anche il
lato bello dell’evento raccontato in modo poetico, vedendo la bellezza
in ogni cosa, un mondo intero da scoprire.
Cerco di raggiungere uno scopo più grande, quello di documentare
le emozioni, le sfide e le problematiche, le speranze e i conflitti
che abbiamo di fronte.
Life in the Big Cities English
The mass immigration from economically weak countries, refugees fleeing wars, persecution, and climate change, the pandemic, the lockdown, and the growing poverty and unemployment have recently created much social unrest, racism, and conflicts among the poor. I was inspired by living in London, observing, exploring, and conducting research on the streets and in museums. I collaborate and work with journalists, writers, and editors of renowned magazines (Naked Punch Magazine).
For this theme, I created works mainly in oil and acrylic on canvas, cardboard, and paper, as well as prints and ink drawings on paper. The sizes range from around 40 x 50 cm to 110 x 180 cm.
The tragic events that have taken place in recent years in the major industrialized cities of the North—hypocrisies, marginalization, misinformation, and the loneliness that have emerged through these events—City Life in the Big Cities also shows the viewer the beautiful side of these events, told in a poetic way, finding beauty in everything, a whole world to discover.
I aim to achieve a greater purpose: to document the emotions, challenges, and issues, the hopes and conflicts that we face.

Abstract Works (Opere astratte) Italiano
Col passare degli anni ho iniziato a sperimentare alcuni miei
concetti con un linguaggio moderno. Ho visitato delle mostre
d’arte moderna astratta nella Tate Modern e nella Royal Academy
of Arts di Londra, ispirandomi da esse.
Mi ha influenzato l’Espressionismo Astratto fondato a New York
nel 1945. Ho creato dei dipinti ad olio e acrilico e delle stampe,
i formati variano da 20 x 30 cm fino a 70 x 90 cm.
Ho scelto alcune mie tematiche come ‘La vita in città’, ‘passeggiata
nella natura’ e degli avvenimenti politici dei nostri giorni.
Racconto allo spettatore il bello in ogni evento in un modo
poetico, vedendo la bellezza in ogni cosa, anche nelle situazioni
poco gradevoli.
L’Espressionismo Astratto è il seguito dell’Espressionismo tedesco
e dei quadri di Van Gogh.
Molti artisti di quell’epoca soffrivano di disturbi mentali dato
l’eccessivo consumo di alcol e delle droghe.
Premesso che l’abuso di alcol ed il consumo di droghe è nocivo
per il corpo e per la mente. Tramite questi stupefacenti molti pittori
si sono suicidati per i forti disturbi mentali.
Ma con l’alimentare dei loro lati oscuri hanno lasciato una grossa
eredità al mondo con le loro opere meravigliose.

Abstract Works English
Over the years, I began experimenting with some of my concepts using a modern language. I visited abstract modern art exhibitions at the Tate Modern and the Royal Academy of Arts in London, drawing inspiration from them. I was influenced by Abstract Expressionism, founded in New York in 1945. I created oil and acrylic paintings and prints, with sizes ranging from 20 x 30 cm to 70 x 90 cm.

I chose some of my themes, such as "City Life," "Walk in Nature," and political events of our time. I tell the viewer about the beauty in each event in a poetic way, seeing beauty in everything, even in unpleasant situations.
Abstract Expressionism follows from German Expressionism and Van Gogh’s paintings. Many artists of that era suffered from mental disorders due to excessive alcohol and drug use.
It should be noted that alcohol abuse and drug consumption are harmful to both body and mind. Through these substances, many painters took their own lives due to severe mental disorders. Yet, by feeding their dark sides, they left a great legacy to the world with their marvelous works.
