MEMORIES AND THOUGHTS
I WASN'T BORN TO CONFORM

A Life of Freedom, Art and Nonconformity

I grew up in an Italian immigrant family, surrounded by
a strict upbringing where stability, duty and a secure job were considered the foundations of a successful life.

But I wanted something different: freedom, adventure and the opportunity to express myself.

After my apprenticeship as a photo lithographer, I realized that spending my entire life working for a company was not for me. The very thought bored me to death.

Following art school, I took on various jobs to survive while pursuing painting, drawing, illustration and fine-art printmaking. Financial struggles were frequent, and criticism from my family was never far away. I was the black sheep, the one who had chosen uncertainty over security.

Moving to London changed everything. The city's energy, cultural diversity and social contradictions opened new horizons in my work, influenced by Italian Futurism, Expressionism and the symbolism of the Neapolitan Smorfia.

I also learned that being an artist requires more than creativity. Marketing, visibility, building connections and dealing with rejection are part of the journey. Creating art is one challenge; bringing it into the world is another.

Over the years, I have faced countless setbacks, criticism and rejection. Yet some of my works are now held in the permanent collections of the Victoria and Albert Museum
in London and the museum in Scarborough, England.

I don't see these achievements as a final destination, but as a reminder that believing in your vision is worthwhile, even when others doubt it.

True freedom means having the courage to build a life of your own, rather than living the one others have imagined for you.

My advice?

Never give up. Never let fear, failure or conformity decide your future. Life is too short to live with the regret of never having tried.

RICORDI E PENSIERI
